President's Message
Dear Beta Omega Sisters,
The beautiful spring blossoms and leafing trees focus our attention on new life, the renewal of the natural world. Let us see spring as a time of renewal in all things, including Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
On April 25, we will induct two new members in our Beta Omega Chapter. Let us all use their initiation as a time of renewal and rededication to Delta Kappa Gamma.
We will also install our officers for the new biennium. We are excited to see how new leadership will revive our chapter. Even if you are not serving as an officer during this new biennium, please know that YOU are vital to the growth and well-being of our chapter. Attend regularly and take part in Beta Omega Chapter and TN State Organization activities.
Sandra Coleman, Sherry Hatchel, Patsye Jones, Marion Pitts, and I attended the Officer Training Workshop in Jackson. Thank you to Sandra, Sherry, Patsy, and Marion for their commitment to their new office.
Please bring any additional “Dresses for Africa” to our meeting this month. We will bundle these and mail them in the days following the meeting. Some of our ladies have worked extremely hard to complete this service project. If you can sew, please join others in making a dress (or more) and bringing it to our meeting.
April 25 is our last meeting until September. Please make every attempt to be present. I have been most honored to serve as your president during this biennium.
With my love and best wishes to you all,
Mary Ellen
Legislative Issues
It seems that the voucher plan is even closer to approval. If this legislation is passed, promised pay raises for teachers will be impacted to provide funds for the program. It also appears that cities and counties will have to raise property taxes or some other form of taxes in order to make up for the loss of state education funds.
Things to Remember
Dues need to be paid to Marion Pitts.
The "Dresses for Africa" need to be completed and brought to the April
meeting.
Please let Patsye Jones of Sandra Coleman know if you plan to attend the April
meeting. This information is needed so the correct number of meals can be ordered. Each meal costs $10.
